Shirat Am Shalom Choir presents: Simcha!

Enjoy an evening of music and culture honouring the historical influence of Jewish composers from the Italian Renaissance to 20th century America.

Shirat Am Shalom - Singers of Peace. The fledgling choir of Am Shalom Congregation in Barrie, Ontario was brought to life in 2013, made possible with a memorial fund honouring the late Freda and Louis Levine by their son and daughter-in-law. Avid musicians, it was Gerald and Elizabeth Levine's desire to create a formal, liturgical ensemble to enhance services and celebrations at the synagogue in perpetuity. Since that time, with dedicated and focused training, Shirat Am Shalom has blossomed into a delightfully accomplished and versatile troupe of singers and instrumentalists, mastering a broad spectrum of repertoire from the challenging counterpoint of the Renaissance to the dramatic expressiveness of Yiddish folk tunes.

On May 28th, in honour of Jewish composers across the ages, Shirat Am Shalom is presenting SIMCHA!, a joyous celebration of music, culture and friendship. An elegant reception with wine and refreshments will be followed by a concert directed by Marilyn Reesor and featuring guest artists, Cantor Anna Trubashnik and cellist Alyssa Wright.

Composer greats include Salamone Rossi, Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Ernest Bloch and George Gershwin. Choral works highlight both liturgical and secular pieces of Jewish repertoire from Louis Lewandowski's Mah Tovu to traditional Yiddish songs and melodies.

Tickets are $25 and are available at Am Shalom Synagogue, 767 Huronia Road, Barrie, Ontario, telephone (705) 792-3949. Reception at 7:00 p.m. followed by 8:00 p.m. concert.

All proceeds will be used for the continuing musical development of Shirat Am Shalom.
