Cellist Alyssa Wright and pianist Marilyn Reesor (2/3 of the former Amity Trio) return to Barrie Concerts’ “Midday Music with Shigeru” series on Wednesday, November 2 at 12:00pm.
They will perform a concert of (mostly) Russian cello music, featuring Prokofiev’s dramatic Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 119, plus works by Stravinsky, Rubinstein, Bloch, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov.
Co-sponsored by the Barrie Examiner and Colours of Music, this series takes place at Hi-Way Pentecostal Church, 50 Anne St. North, Barrie. Tickets are $5 (free for students) and available at the door.
After several years of working together in the former Amity Trio, cellist Alyssa Wright and pianist Marilyn Reesor have since enjoyed many musical collaborations as a duo, in the classical world and beyond. A mutual love of a challenge, as well as of the musically fun, sublime, and sometimes even the downright quirky meets their individual technical mastery and musical depth, and the result is… well, yours to discover on November 2nd!
Canadian cellist Alyssa Wright studied performance and composition at Queen’s University, and in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed cello virtuoso Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi and bass wizard Victor Wooten. As both a soloist and chamber player, she has performed everything from Continuo realizations to Led Zeppelin covers, expanding her interests to include musical styles of many different eras and cultures. Formerly the Assistant Principal Cellist of the Kingston Symphony, Principal Cellist of Ensemble Unterwegs and the Festival Players, and cellist for the Amity Trio, Alyssa has become one of Ontario’s most popular session and studio cellists, and is featured on many recordings. Currently, Alyssa performs and records as a member of roots duo The Brights, is first-call cellist for Barrie’s own Talk Is Free Theatre, and is busy as a solo cellist & singer-songwriter.
